Why Pven Exists

Pven is a small independent publication for people who run on rough ground and like to plan around real events. It is written for first-time trail racers, steady club runners and anyone curious about the hills and ridges of the Cevennes and the races held among them.

Found a mistake?

Race details change, and so do routes. If a date, distance or fact looks wrong, write to [email protected]. A fix goes straight into the article concerned, so the next runner to open it sees the right figure.

Three subjects, one trail

Everything on the site belongs to one of three areas. They feed each other: a race is easier to enjoy when training fits its terrain, and an event is easier to choose when you know what it will ask of your legs.

  • Cevennes Trail Races looks at the character of races in the region, including terrain, climbs, descents, cut-offs, weather and what a first-timer should expect.
  • Trail Training covers building strength for climbs, practising descents, pacing long days, fuelling and recovering sensibly.
  • Outdoor Events covers the wider calendar of gatherings in the mountains, from choosing one to arranging travel, kit and logistics.

How the pieces are put together

The goal is advice a runner can use on the next outing. Race information is compared with the organisers’ own published material, and training ideas are checked against recognised coaching and sports science sources. Where conditions vary by season or the evidence is mixed, the article says so plainly.

Events move, courses are rerouted and entry rules shift from one edition to the next. Pages are revisited and revised when something no longer holds, so check an organiser’s official site before you commit to a plan.

Who reads it

Some readers are lining up for a first long day on the trails, while others are looking for a second opinion on one problem such as sore knees on descents. Nothing here assumes elite fitness, a coach or a large budget.
